Being an officiant for over 900 couples and getting to know each one of them, I can confidently say, your wedding story truly starts on the day of your engagement. Your proposal, although usually a story all its own, is really the first chapter of what will become your wedding story. Independent of whether it was a quiet moment, with only you two in a favorite spot, or some flash mob craziness, it is where your wedding story begins.
Of course, the biggest part of your wedding story is your special day, and that is where most of the once-in-a-lifetime wedding memories are going to be made. However, your engagement, going to wedding shows with friends and family, shopping for the perfect dress with mom, etc. are all part of your wedding story. And when doing these things, you are most likely creating some wonderful wedding memories, many that I am sure are being captured in pictures and/or video.
So, when creating the concept for a digital wedding time capsule, one thing we wanted to make sure was that it included the ability to start uploading wedding memories to the capsule immediately after it was purchased. And, if you decide to involve your friends and family, they also can upload to the capsule once they have a code that you provide them. It doesn’t matter if your time capsule is purchased a week or a year before your wedding day. It also doesn’t matter if you buy it or someone buys it for you as a unique wedding gift since when purchased, you are automatically emailed instructions, account info, and an upload code that is unique to your wedding time capsule.
We wanted it to work this way for you for 2 main reasons –
1 – The first reason is to provide you with more than the few days around your wedding to collect and upload your wedding memories. Only having this limited time frame to collect, review, and store all your wonderful wedding memories almost always leads to more than a few precious wedding pictures, videos, and notes not getting saved for the long term. And, trying to do all the collecting, reviewing, and uploading during the few days before and few days after your wedding is not realistic since those are the days when you are focused on making wonderful wedding memories happen, not trying to collect and save them.
2 – The second reason is what was mentioned at the beginning of this post, your wedding story actually starts at the moment of yes… or whatever may have been the answer to the proposal question (ours was a resounding, “absolutely”). Your wedding story is so much more than just the day of. It includes the emotional pictures and video taken during the proposal. It includes the magical moments of finding the right dress and suit/tux. It includes a wonderfully written wedding invitation. It includes the fun of the bachelor and bachelorette parties (at least the memories you want to remember). And, it includes so much more. All the wedding related memories created leading up to your big day are an important part of your wedding story and thus they should also be there to relive so many years later.
The key is to either have an option, like a digital wedding time capsule, or a plan to make sure you collect and save your wedding story moments as soon after they happen as possible. The problem with many of the other options out there, like a wedding scrapbook, or a picture share service, is that very few of the memories created during the lead up to, and even the day of, are getting saved for the long term. Many are forgotten because of limited time around the wedding or the process of collecting and saving isn’t started to well after the wedding, which could then be many months after certain wedding story moments happened.
We hope that you purchase a digital wedding time capsule early and upload as you go. But if instead you use another option, just make sure to take a little extra time before your wedding to save memories from your entire wedding celebration. It will be worth it!
